The Celebration Awaits Us

"I try to see every day as a celebration.  Nobody has sworn to me that I'll be around next December 25th.  So every day I awaken I am grateful.  My intent is to be totally present in that day.  And laugh as much as possible." ~ Maya Angelou ~

You may notice that my weekly blog post is a couple days late this week.  My mantra is better late than never.  My week has been jam packed with work, activities and preparation revolving around the holidays, a funeral, and one sick little boy.  My mind has been beyond occupied to say the least.

But this beautiful sun shining morning, I have found clarity of mind as I happily await the holidays with anticipation.  In whatever tradition your family celebrates this special time of year, I hope that you can enjoy and see each moment as the true celebration that it is.  Do your best to stay present and above all laugh as much as possible.  Happy Holidays and thanks for reading my blog!

Get a jump start on the new year by registering online now for my 3rd annual New Year's Revolution 2 1/2 hour workshop.  This up-tempo Vinyasa flow practice will challenge and invigorate your body, mind, and spirit.  Register early by contacting me for more information or signing up online at Practice Yoga: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/ASP/home.asp?studioid=16418.  The workshop will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, January 8th at Practice Yoga (504 E. Embrace the Moment

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." ~ The Buddha ~

Especially during this time of year people everywhere are commenting to me, "Enjoy your kids when they are this age.  They are so much fun when they are young."  I completely agree.  In the chaos of the holiday season, it's easy to lose track of what's important and where my energy should be dedicated.  At age seven and five, my children are fully into The Elf on the Shelf and a myriad of other holiday activity traditions.  It's my intention to embrace these moments with them and view life through their curious eyes.

Last weekend when I was in Cleveland studying with Kathryn Budig, I realized (yet again, anyway) that life is so simple.  I am the one that makes it hard.  I am the one that gets lost.  My agenda and my plans need to be thrown out the window so that I can do what my heart leads me to do at any given moment.  This practice of opening to grace and letting my heart be my guide, is what allows me to bake cookies with my daughter without worrying about a dirty house.  It is what makes each moment I spend with loved ones extra special as I commit my complete presence to them.

So instead of spending lots of time this week writing my blog, I have a daughter waiting in the kitchen to start our holiday baking.  My heart is leading me to spend some quality time with her.  What is your heart leading you to do?  How can you reach out to someone you haven't connected to in a while and enjoy some special time together?  Embrace each moment fully and have a wonderful holiday season!

You are important!

"Nothing can stop you if your aim is true."  ~ Kathryn Budig~

This past weekend I had the absolute gift of going to Cleveland to study with the Santa Monica based Yoga teacher, Kathryn Budig.  (Thanks Mom and Dad for watching the kids and Scott for holding down the fort at home!)  Kathryn's workshop was fantastic.  I loved every second of it and learned so much and have already been able to put her knowledge to good use.  I can not even begin to express what a few days of study with an extraordinary teacher will do for your Yoga practice and for me as a teacher, it totally inspires me and allows me to improve my level of teaching to private clients and to students who attend my classes.

I feel like I grow and develop so much every time I attend a Yoga workshop.  This weekend with Kathryn, light bulbs were going off right and left in my head, as like building blocks, I began to piece the teachings together in my mind.  Kathryn's practices are especially exciting because she is so passionate about Yoga and her love for the practice is contagious.  If I can impart just a fraction of her joy to my clients, students, and anyone that I come into contact in a given day, I would consider myself as a success.  She is simply vibrant and fun to study with.

In addition to the outstanding Yoga, another benefit was being able to get away from home and recharge my batteries and revitalize my mind.  I was able to let Kathryn's teachings soak into my brain more fully not having to deal with my children (God love them) and the everyday chores of managing a household.

Obviously, if you are reading this blog, you know that I too am passionate about Yoga.  It is what fires me up and makes me come alive.  By making the time to go to Cleveland and study with Kathryn, I replenished my own energy so that I can now go forth and not only be a better teacher myself, but also a better mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend.

What makes you come alive?  What invigorates your spirit to the point where you become a better person and your spirit is lifted to a higher level?  Whatever this activity is for you, realize how important it is to make the time for yourself and go forth and do it!  Replenishing your own self so that you may in turn effectively care for important others in your life is not only very important, but completely vital to your own happiness.

We all strive for joy in our lives and finding what makes our hearts sing and enables us to fill up our own cup is just the right formula to improve the lives of others who surround us.  Your happiness becomes a domino effect because the happier you become, (for example) the nicer you treat your spouse.  Then your spouse goes to work and since he or she is happy at home, he treats his co-workers more favorably.  Because of this kindness, the co-worker goes home and is more pleasant to be around to his or her family.  This feeling of happiness continues to grow as more and more lives are touched and the momentum continues on and on and on.

The positive chain reaction of you taking the time to do what makes you come alive is undeniable.  My message today is to reflect on and remember what an asset you are to the lives of others.  You are worthy and deserve a break every now and then.  Take the time to nourish your own heart and soul.  Maybe it's a cup of tea and a bubble bath, a long walk in the woods, or a yoga class.  Whatever it may be for you, make it a priority and do it.  YOU ARE IMPORTANT!

If you're located in the Dayton area and are looking for a way to set aside some time for you, mark your calendar now for my New Year's Resolution 2 1/2 hour workshop.  This up-tempo Vinyasa flow practice will challenge and invigorate your body, mind, and spirit.  Register early by contacting me for more information or signing up online at Practice Yoga.  The workshop will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, January 8th at Practice Yoga (504 E.
